Puppy pricing structure

Why invest in a mockingbird puppy?

Each puppy is purposefully bred, carefully raised, and thoughtfully prepared for success in their future home. Our pricing reflects the extensive health testing, intentional breeding decisions, early socialization, individualized care, premium nutrition, enrichment, and lifelong breeder support that go into every litter.

Our goal is not simply to produce puppies—we strive to produce confident, healthy, versatile Border Collies that will thrive as beloved companions, sport partners, and working dogs.

Choosing a puppy is more than making a purchase—it's beginning a relationship that can last well over a decade. We are committed to supporting our puppy families throughout the lifetime of every dog we breed and are always available to answer questions, offer guidance, and celebrate your puppy's milestones.

We look forward to helping you find the right puppy for your home and lifestyle.

Reservation & deposit Process

Step 1: Join the Waitlist

After your application has been reviewed and approved, a $100 non-refundable waitlist deposit is required to reserve your place on our waitlist.

This deposit:

  • Confirms your commitment to a future puppy

  • Reserves your place on the waitlist

  • Is applied toward the purchase price of your puppy

Step 2: Puppy Deposit

Once puppies are born and a puppy is expected to be available for you, an additional $400 deposit is due.

Combined with your waitlist deposit, this creates a total deposit of $500, which is credited toward the final purchase price.

All of our puppies are AKC DNA tested and tested through Optimal Selection prior to leaving our home. Your deposit goes toward the purchase price of those tests and you will receive a copy of the results at pickup.

The remaining balance is due prior to or at puppy pickup, as outlined in your purchase contract. The prices listed below are the total price and DO NOT include the deposit.

Mockingbird puppy base price - $3,000

The base price is derived from the average Border Collie price at any given time. Any Border Collie puppy you purchase should come from parents that have been health tested to breed club standards (at minimum). Puppies should also be examined by a veterinarian, dewormed/vaccinated, and come with a purchase contract.

  • Our puppies are all produced by health-tested parents with proof readily available.

  • Puppies are dewormed every 2 weeks of age and then started on heartworm and flea/tick prevention when age appropriate

  • Puppies are examined by a veterinarian and vaccinated and microchipped by 7 weeks of age. They may receive one additional vaccine prior to placement depending on timelines.

  • BAER (hearing) testing is performed after 6 weeks of age, if indicated

  • An ophthalmic (eye exam) is performed after 7 weeks of age to screen for any juvenile eye disease

  • All puppies are sent home with a puppy pack that includes comprehensive health records, food, toys, and other puppy essentials/fun surprises

  • We sell all our puppies under a contract that will be reviewed with you prior to purchase and signed by both parties when the puppies are sent home.

Mockingbird Advanced Puppy Skills Package

pre-approval required $300/week (9-16 weeks)

For families looking to give their puppy an even stronger start, we offer a limited Advanced Puppy Foundations Program. Puppies enrolled in this program remain with us for additional time after the standard go-home age, allowing us to continue building confidence, manners, and life skills through individualized training and daily experiences.

During their extended stay, puppies continue living in our home as part of our family while receiving structured training and socialization tailored to their developmental stage.

The program includes:

  • Advanced Foundation Behaviors – Building reliability with skills such as waiting at doors until released, introductory stay cues, loose-leash walking, and beginning heel position.

  • Engagement & Focus Training – Introducing puppies to common environmental sights and sounds while encouraging appropriate engagement with their handler and calm responses to new experiences.

  • Place Training – Teaching puppies to settle on a designated mat or bed for short periods, helping develop impulse control and relaxation.

  • Expanded Socialization – Additional outings and positive exposure to new people, environments, surfaces, sounds, and experiences, including participation in a supervised group puppy class when appropriate.

  • Crate & House Training – Continued progress with structured crate routines, overnight sleeping habits, and a consistent potty training schedule.

  • Cooperative Care Foundations – Introducing positive handling exercises using reward-based techniques to prepare puppies for nail trims, grooming, veterinary examinations, restraint, and teeth checks.

  • Conformation Foundations (Show Prospects) – Show prospect puppies begin learning the fundamentals of the conformation ring, including free stacking, hand stacking, proper examination by a judge, gaiting, and confidence in the show environment. These early lessons provide an excellent foundation for owners planning to compete in AKC conformation events.

  • AKC Virtual Titles Included – Before going home, each puppy will earn both their AKC Virtual Home Manners Puppy (VHMP) and AKC Virtual Scent Work Beginner (VSWB) titles, giving owners a fun head start on their puppy's AKC accomplishments. These titles represent an $80 value and are included at no additional cost.

Because each puppy receives individualized attention, this program is limited to one or two puppies per litter. Enrollment is available by discussion and approval prior to puppy placement to ensure it is the right fit for both the puppy and their future family.
