Hello!

My name is Liz and I am the person behind Mockingbird Border Collies! I've loved dogs for as long as I can remember, but Border Collies captured my heart because they embody everything I admire, intelligence, athleticism, versatility, and an incredible desire to work with their people. What began as a passion for training and competing has grown into a breeding program dedicated to preserving those qualities for future generations.

wHY BORDER COLLIES?

People often ask why I chose Border Collies, and the answer is simple: no other breed offers the same combination of intelligence, athleticism, and heart. I wanted a dog that could truly do it all; a partner capable of excelling in the show ring one weekend, working livestock the next, and then settling down at home with the family. Border Collies are endlessly eager to learn, thrive on having a job, and form incredible bonds with their people. Their versatility is what first drew me to the breed, and every day they continue to prove why they are unlike any other. They challenge me to become a better trainer, handler, and breeder, and it's that unique partnership that inspires everything I do at Mockingbird Border Collies.

HOW DID MOCKINGBIRD COME TO BE?

The name Mockingbird was chosen as a tribute to one of my favorite novels, To Kill a Mockingbird, a story that has long resonated with me for its themes of integrity, compassion, and doing what is right even when it isn't easy. It also honors my first Border Collie, Scout, whose name was inspired by the book's unforgettable protagonist. Scout sparked my passion for purebred dogs and dog sports, and set me on the path that eventually became Mockingbird Border Collies. Naming my program Mockingbird is a way of honoring both the story that has inspired me for years and the dog who inspired everything that followed.

Why versatility is so important to us

Versatility is at the heart of everything we do at Mockingbird Border Collies. The Border Collie was developed to be an adaptable working partner, and we believe that heritage should be preserved. Our goal is to produce dogs that are sound in mind and body, capable of succeeding in the show ring, on the trial field, in performance sports, on the farm, and as devoted family companions. We believe a truly exceptional Border Collie shouldn't have to choose between beauty and ability, it should possess both.
